Tooth Extraction Procedures
Your oral health is no joke
Tooth extraction and treatment is a dental procedure applied when a tooth needs to be removed and the resulting gap needs treatment. Extraction may be necessary if a tooth is decayed, broken, or severely damaged, or for other reasons.
Tooth extraction is usually performed under local anesthesia and is generally painless. The dentist softens the surrounding tissues and bones before carefully removing the tooth. After extraction, the area is cleaned, and stitches may be placed if necessary.
Post-extraction, the dentist may take measures to promote healing and protect the tooth gap. These measures could include the placement of dental prosthetics or implants, bone regeneration, or other restorative procedures.
Our goal is to ensure that patients can have their teeth extracted painlessly and receive the best post-extraction treatment options. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact us.
When Is Tooth Extraction Necessary?
Dentists strive to keep natural teeth in the mouth, but sometimes extraction is necessary. Fillings, root canal treatments, or crowns can be applied as a result of gum disease. However, if the tooth has severe material loss that cannot be saved by these methods, if there is a need for space for orthodontic treatment, or if the supporting tissues are severely damaged due to gum disease, extraction is required. Impacted or partially impacted teeth that cause decay and pain over time also need to be extracted.
How Long Does a Tooth Extraction Take?
If no surgical procedure is required, a tooth extraction takes about 15-20 minutes. However, teeth with many roots or difficult-to-remove teeth may take a bit longer. If an impacted tooth is encountered, surgical intervention is necessary, which prolongs the duration of the extraction.
How Many Days Will the Extracted Tooth Hurt?
After a tooth extraction, pain typically lasts for a few days. The healing process generally takes about 7 days. Impacted tooth extractions are more complex and may take a bit longer. Following the dentist’s advice after extraction will help reduce pain.
