Wisdom Tooth Extraction Procedures
Your oral health is no joke
Wisdom tooth extraction and treatment involve the removal and, if necessary, treatment of teeth commonly referred to as “wisdom teeth,” which tend to emerge during early adulthood. These teeth often cause problems due to insufficient space in the mouth or improper eruption.
Wisdom teeth, four in total, are located in the upper and lower jaws. Emerging around the age of 20, these teeth typically pose issues for dental and jaw structures.
The extraction process for wisdom teeth is usually performed under local anesthesia and is generally painless. The dentist softens the surrounding tissues and bones before carefully removing the tooth. After extraction, the area is cleaned, and stitches may be placed if necessary.
Post-extraction, the dentist may take preventive measures to promote healing and preserve the tooth gap. These measures could include the placement of dental prosthetics or implants, bone regeneration, or other restorative procedures.
Our goal is to ensure a painless extraction of wisdom teeth and to support post-extraction with the best possible treatment options. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact us.
What Are the Symptoms of Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth can develop healthily without causing discomfort if they find enough space in the gums. However, many individuals experience inadequate space, leading to unhealthy development. Common symptoms during the eruption or impaction of wisdom teeth include:
- Bad breath
- Tooth and gum pain
- Jaw and ear pain
- Headache
What Is an Impacted Wisdom Tooth?
If the jaw structure is unsuitable for a wisdom tooth, it may erupt at an incorrect angle and remain embedded in the gum, known as an impacted wisdom tooth. These teeth often cause pain and should be regularly monitored by a dentist to prevent negative impacts on jaw and tooth structures. Impacted wisdom teeth typically require surgical extraction.
How to Identify an Impacted Wisdom Tooth?
The presence of wisdom tooth pain is usually detected through dental X-rays. X-rays reveal impacted and wisdom teeth that are not visible from the outside. The decision on whether to perform a simple extraction or surgical procedure is made based on the condition of the tooth. If extraction is possible, it will be performed; otherwise, surgical intervention by a dentist will be necessary.
